Orca Oceanic Systems provides its clients with a range of support and engineering services specifically tailored to Diving and Subsea Contractors. With over 70 years of cumulative Diving experience (including expertise in air saturation, hyperbaric welding, system manufacture, and system commissioning) the Orca Oceanic Systems team supports projects across the globe.
As an adaptable and forward-thinking engineering and hydraulics company, Bowen is well-placed to handle critical hydraulic systems that operate within the offshore, marine and diving sectors.
In this instance of our work within the marine sector, our client, Orca Oceanic Systems, was looking to prepare a 12-man Hyperbaric system for mobilization to the Wellsafe Guardian platform. Due to the ever-present danger of marine work, it was, of course, critical that the systems were maintained and serviced in a highly-effective manner that guaranteed safety and efficiency.
The Brief
The scope of work entrusted to Bowen for this project included:
- Refurbish and testing of heat exchangers
- The replacement of all system hoses and fittings
- Thorough inspection of all hydraulic rams
- Hydraulic rams being refurbished, tested and repainted
- Refurbish and test system accumulators
Due to being a life safety-critical system, there were some additional factors that needed to be carefully considered in the project plan and scope of work. These included taking a closer look at existing hose types and fittings and assessing their suitability in regard to their ability to withstand fire, high heat and pressures. Then, Bowen needed to understand the regulations and safety requirements of all the components in the system, before selecting replacements or offering enhanced products.
