Forth Ports is one of the UK’s largest port operators. Due to their unique work, it’s essential for Forth Ports to have strong and safe hydraulic equipment so that no preventable accidents happen either on land or on water.

Forth Ports require reassurance that all their essential lifting equipment, such as deck winches, are working efficiently so that they can carry out their work as planned and give assurances of a safe, well-functioning site to their staff and clients.

The Brief

Forth Ports approached us with the requirements of surveying and installing a new replacement deck winch and all associated hydraulics. Once installed, this winch would increase the type of work it could carry out and overall winching load capabilities.

Bowen was also tasked with making sure that once the replacement winch was installed into the vessel's hydraulic systems, it was capable of being remotely operated from the bridge instead of the deck, which would help to improve safety for the crew and ease of operation.

The main requirements were to ensure the new winch and associated systems were installed to the relevant standards, along with the operational improvements and increased functionality over the previous winch system. Providing a system that operated in a safer and more efficient way would in turn help the crew and the company in their daily operations.
